STORRS, Conn. - Following a two-game sweep at Union to start the 2016-17 season, the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team will welcome No. 3 Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 7 for its home opener at the Freitas Ice Forum. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
The Huskies are off to a 2-0 start to the season for the first time since 2008-09 after claiming both victories on the road at Union. UConn put up five goals in game-one against the Dutchwomen and then pulled out a 2-1 win in the third period the following day.

Junior goaltender Annie Belanger (Sherbrooke, Quebec) and freshman forward Briana Colangelo (Whitby, Ont.) received Hockey East weekly honors for their performances against Union. Colangelo and fellow freshmen, Leona Sim (Vancouver, B.C.) and Erica D'Errico (Concord, N.H.), each recorded their first career goals in Friday's 5-1 defeat of the Dutchwomen at Messa Rink.

No. 3 Quinnipiac went 2-0 in its opening series against Hockey East contender, Maine, starting the season with a 5-4 victory Friday followed by a 3-0 shutout on Saturday on the Bobcats' home ice in Hamden, Conn.

The 2015-16 ECAC Champions, the Bobcats welcome five newcomers to the squad this year. Quinnipiac returns two of its top three scorers from last season, including Taylar Cianfarano and Emma Woods. The Huskies and the Bobcats squared off once last season in the first round of the 2015 Nutmeg Classic.
