EUGENE, Ore. -- University of Connecticut men's track and field standouts Craig Hunter (Robbinsville, N.J.) and Cory Duggan (Staten Island, N.Y.) are set to compete in pole vault at the NCAA Championships on Wednesday, June 10 at historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
The pole vault final, which will feature 24 athletes from around the nation, will begin at 7 p.m. ET. A complete list of championship events can be found by CLICKING HERE. Fans can keep up with all the action via ESPN3 and a live results tab (links posted above).
The Husky duo advanced to the NCAA Championship after posting a pair of 5.25m leaps at the NCAA East Regional on May 29. In total, the Huskies boasted a program-record 13 individual qualifiers for the event, hosted by the University of North Florida.
Duggan and Hunter each finished in the top-20 in the nation in the pole vault during the outdoor season. Hunter's career-best 5.35m leap came at the 2015 Texas Relays, while Duggan notched a season-best 5.28m leap at The American Championship, helping the Huskies capture their fourth-ever outdoor conference crown.
"We're excited for both guys to get going," said head coach Greg Roy. "Craig and Cory both advanced with very professional results, converting each of their attempts at the Regional. Both guys have worked hard this season and we're looking forward to them finishing off with a great showing on Wednesday."
Hayward Field was initially constructed for football in 1919. Two years later, a six-lane cinder track was installed and a full schedule of track events were transferred from Kincaid Field on the opposite edge of campus. The facility was utilized for both sports until the opening of Autzen Stadium in 1967.
The stadium (current capacity: 10,500) has undergone significant improvements in modern history, including a new track surface, permanent lights, a video board and newly configured infield.
The top-eight finishers in each event will earn First Team All-America honors, while competitors who finish ninth through 16th are tabbed as Second Team All-America selections.
