Men's Track and Field Shines at 2015 Princeton Open

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Competing in its penultimate meet before the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship, the University of Connecticut men's track and field team posted man of the conference's best results of the season at the Princeton Open held from May 1-2 in Princeton, N.J.
Alvaro Chavez, who owns The American's fifth-fastest time this season, paced the Huskies in the 800m run on Friday, taking fourth overall with a 1:50.64 time that was just 0.17 seconds away from a personal best.
Michael O'Donnell notched a fourth-place finish in the 1,500m run and moved into third on the conference performance list, clocking in at a career-best 3:48.15 just ahead of teammate Nick Bertoline (3:54.32), while Wyatt Million took fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a 9:29.98 result.
Michael McGonnigle shined in the 5,000m run, finishing the race in 14:28.86.
The Huskies' 'A' 4x100m relay team that consisted of Chinedu Amonu, Darnell Cummings, Trenten Beram and Patrick Hayes nabbed a silver medal with a 40.91 second time.
Matthew Graziano picked up a bronze medal in the hammer throw, tossing a 52.95m result.
Cummings continued a strong afternoon with a 21.37 second time in the 200m dash, setting a new season-best and moving into third on the conference's performance list
Beram (47.55) and Amonu (47.79) shined in the 400m dash, taking second and third, respectively, while Hovanec followed in sixth (48.43). Beram's sub-47.60 time moved him up to third on the league performance list in the event.
Selwyn Maxwell's 14.21 second time in the 110m hurdle prelims was the top time and second-best in The American this season, followed by Randall Wall's 14.59 performance. Wall nabbed second in the final (14.61) held later in the day. James Lowe took fifth in the 400m hurdle final, clocking in at 53.57. His result moved him into the top-10 in the conference for the event.
Tobey Belton posted UConn's best mark in the high jump, leaping 1.94m, while Craig Hunter picked up a second-place finish in the pole vault with a 5.21m result. Fellow pole vaulter Cory Duggan followed Hunter's silver medal with a bronze of his own, notching a 5.00m leap and Chandler Ives followed in fourth (5.00m).
Amanze Williams posted another top-three finish when he finished third in the triple jump final at 13.87m.
On the field, Olulwatosin Edwards grabbed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 54.43m. Seth Zuidema won the javelin toss with a 60.54m result.

"This was just an overwhelmingly positive two day for us," said head coach Greg Roy. "The guys that came down here did a great job at solidifying their place on the conference performance lists and we saw quite a few personal bests as well."
The meet represented the Huskies' second-to-last competition before hosting the 2015 American Athletic Conference outdoor championships at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex on May 14-17. Last season, the Huskies captured third at the inaugural league meet, which was held in Tampa, Fla. The team finished with 144 points across the three day meet, just shy of second-place Memphis' 147. Houston claimed the title with 156.5 points.
