NEW YORK - Six days after opening the 2015 indoor season at the Yale Invitational, the University of Connecticut men's track and field team delivered a strong performance at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday night at the Armory in New York City.
After being named the ECAC New England Division I Co-Athlete of the Week on Thursday, sophomore pole vaulter Craig Hunter matched his season-best 5.25m result, winning the event by .10 meters. Oluwatosin Edwards secured the Huskies' second first-place finish with a 18.81m toss in the weight throw. Teammate Pobo EfeKoro followed up Edwards with a 17.27m throw.
Sophomore sprinter Randall Wall grabbed the Huskies' first top-10 finish of the afternoon, taking ninth in the 60m hurdles (8.27). Senior David Cotton continued his strong senior season, finishing fifth in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:28.13.
Connecticut was well-represented in the 400m dash, as freshman Trentan Beram (48.11) earned a second-place finish, edging out teammate Robert Hovanec (49.33), who took ninth.
Chinedu Amonu opened his 2015 indoor campaign on a high note, taking seventh in the 500m dash (1:04.17). Junior co-captain Selwyn Maxwell shined in the 60m hurdles, securing second-place with a 8.03 second result.
The 'A' 4x400m relay team delivered another solid showing, claiming sixth-place with a time of 3:20.44. Sophomore sprinter Patrick Hayes grabbed fourth in the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 22.06.

The Huskies return to action next weekend when they travel to Kington, R.I. to compete in the Sorlien Invitational. Action is set to begin at 11 a.m.
