WAKEFIELD, Mass. - UConn women's ice hockey goaltender Elaine Chuli (Waterford, Ontario) has been named the WHEA Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Sept. 29. The laurel for Chuli comes after making 86 saves in a two-game set against No. 10 Minnesota Duluth over the weekend.
Against UMD on Sept. 26, Chuli made a career-high 54 saves to help the Huskies preserve a 4-4 tie. That mark left her one save shy of UConn's single-game program record. In game two against Duluth on Sept. 27, Chuli stopped 32-of-34 shots in a 3-0 loss to finish the weekend with a .935 save percentage.
The weekly award is the sixth conference honor for the junior, after three Defensive Player of the Week nods, a Player of the Week award and a Goaltender of the Month honor last season. Chuli was also named a WHEA All Start Honorable Mention at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season.
The Huskies return to action on Friday, Oct. 3 with a trip to No. 10 Quinnipiac. Puck drop between the Huskies and Bobcats from Hamden, Conn. is set for 7 p.m.
