UConn Ninth At FAU Slomin Autism Invite

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Sophomore John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) shot a 3-over par 74 on Sunday to wrap up a 72-75-74-221 weekend to lead the UConn men's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite at The Fountains Country Club North Course in Lake Worth, Fla.
Flaherty's total was good enough for a tie for 28th in the 82-player field. He finished one stroke ahead of UConn freshman teammate Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.), whose 77-73-72-222 put him in a tie for 31st place.
Junior Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.) tied for 38th place with a 77-70-77-224, while sophomores Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) and Cameron MacKay Brookfield, Conn.) each tied for 53rd place with an 80-69-80-229 and a 76-76-77-229, respectively.
Playing as an individual, UConn sophomore Corey Birch (Ridgefield, Conn.) landed in a tie for 38th place with his 73-81-70-224 on the par-71 course. The individual medalist was UCF's Ricardo Gouveia with a 10-under 203.
As a team, UConn's 302-287-300-889 was ninth in the 15-team field, which was led by champion UCF with an aggregate 839.
The Huskies will stay close to home for their next tournament, co-hosting the New England Spring Invite on April 12-13 at the Mohegan Sun Country Club in Baltic, Conn.
