Zaback Leads Huskies At Snowman Getaway

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Sophomore Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) began the spring portion of UConn's golf schedule with two sub-par rounds Monday, putting himself in a tie for 12th place after two rounds of the 100-player Snowman Getaway at the Palm Valley Course in Phoenix.
Zaback shot a 1-under 71 in the first of two rounds Monday and followed it up with a 2-under 70. His 3-under 141 placed him in a four-way deadlock for 12th place. The two-round leader of the event is Ryan McCormick of St. John's, who stands at 12-under after a 64-68-132.
The rest of the UConn contingent was bunched in a close group after the first two rounds of the tournament. Freshman Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore Corey Birch (Ridgefield, Conn.) were in a tie for 79th place after shooting 79-73-152 and 74-78-152, respectively. Sophomore John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.) were in a tie for 83rd place after they shot 77-76-153 and 79-74-153, respectively.
Playing as an individual, UConn sophomore Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) shot 77-72-149 and was in a tie for 60th place after two rounds.
UConn's aggregate 301-293-594 put the Huskies in 16th place in the 17-team event. Air Force's 276-287-563 led the 17-team field by four strokes over Missouri-Kansas City.
The third and final round of the Snowman Getaway is set for Tuesday.
