Four Huskies Named ECAC First Team All-Stars

DANBURY, Conn. - Four Huskies, Roisin Upton (Limerick, Ireland), Chrissy Davidson (West Lawn, Pa.), Anna Middendorf (Bremen, Germany) and Charlotte Veitner (Dusseldorf, Germany) were placed on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star First Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon. In addition, Upton was selected as the ECAC's Defensive Player of the Year.
Earlier in December, Upton, Davidson and Middendorf were all tabbed as All-America selections. The four standouts were also honored by the NFHCA as All-Mideast Region First Team selections prior to UConn's second-straight national championship run in late November.
Upton, who earned her second All-America nod of her career on Dec. 1, was an integral part of the 2014 Husky squad which won its final 14 games en route to the NCAA National Championship. She was one of four finalists for the sport's prestigious Honda Award. The 2014 Big East Defensive Player of the Year tallied 24 points with 12 assists and six goals, serving as a central part of Connecticut's penalty corner unit. She was named the Big East Tournament's Most Outstanding Player and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team after scoring a goal, dishing out an assist, as well as playing the second half of the championship game as the team's centerback. She also earned a spot on All-Tournament team following the conclusion of the 2014 national title game.
Davidson, one of two Husky captains, was a mainstay in the Connecticut midfield, chipping in 13 assists to go along with a pair of scores. The West Lawn, Pa. native registered 25 assists in her final two seasons in Storrs. She earned a spot on the All-Conference Tournament team and matched a season-high with four points against Yale on Oct. 19. Following UConn's 1-0 win over Syracuse in the NCAA title game, Davidson was one of four Huskies tabbed to the All-Tournament team.
Middendorf was a key cog in the UConn defense which has boasted nine shutouts in 23 games. The sophomore proved to be one of the nation's most dangerous threats on penalty corner attempts, tallying nine goals to go along with nine assists. Her biggest assist of the season came on the eventual game-winning goal in the NCAA Championship game as she fed a ball to Mckenzie Townsend (Harpursville, Pa.) in the middle of the circle on a corner attempt. She also recorded a season-best five points in the Huskies' dominant 4-0 victory over league foe Old Dominion on Oct. 10.
Veitner burst onto the college scene with an incredible 18 goals, including a team-high five game-winners, and 12 assists in 23 games. The freshman forward has scored five goals in the Huskies' four NCAA Tournament games this season and also came up huge against Temple on Nov. 1, scoring twice in the final 4:18 to lift the Huskies to their 14th Big East regular season title. Earlier this season, she was named the Big East Rookie of the Year.
