On Tonight's Game
Southern came out and played a real good game. Defensively they played real well. We forced a lot of shots but that's why they call it an exhibition. We'll get better from it and make sure we come out and play a little harder against Assumption. We got the first one out of the way and we'll just keep building forward. That's what life's all about. That's what basketball is all about, and we'll get better from it.
We've got to do a better job on the offensive end, but I thought our defense was pretty good and our rebounding was pretty good. I'm going to take the positive from those two aspects.
We're not worrying about anybody's shots right now. The only thing we're worrying about is bringing energy. Some of the players didn't have the energy that we want. We will correct that. I'm not worrying about the shooting right now.

I'm always glad to get a win. But it was a grind. It was ugly. It was definitely an ugly win. We're a young team. Everybody was a little nervous - jitters and stuff like that. I'm just happy we grinded.
I see the potential we have. We can be a great team. We just have to clean a lot of stuff up.
On Sam Cassell Jr.'s play tonight
He isn't a young player. He's older than me. Sam played great. Like I said, we all have to get better on the defensive end. But as far as shooting, he shot the ball great. I was trying to find him as much as I could and he was knocking them down.

On being more of a smart, veteran player
It comes from me watching my father all the time. I know how to pick different spots on the floor and my teammates get me open. I came off down screens and the big guys set good screens and got me open.
