UConn Women Fall to UMass, 5-2

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 5-2 decision to the University of Massachusetts at home Thursday afternoon. The Huskies and UMass played four three-set singles matches with the Minutewomen winning three of the four to seal the win. The Huskies even their dual match record to 1-1 on the fall.
The Huskies #1 doubles team of junior Srna Stosljevic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and senior Maxene Weinberg (Marietta, Ga.) posted an 8-6 win over Arielle Griffin and Aarzoo Malik. UMass gabbed the doubles point thanks to wins in the #2 and #3 slots.
In singles action, Stosljevic and sophomore Emma Alderman (Hingham, Mass.) got wins for UConn in the top-two positions. Stosljevic beat Griffin 6-4 and 6-3 at #1. Alderman was a three-set winner at #2 over Malik, taking the first set 6-4, dropping the second 6-3 but rebounding in the third set with a 7-6 victory.
UConn came up short at #4 through #6 singles, losing all three matches in three sets. Freshman Zaina Zaki (West Chester, Pa.) won her first set 6-3 over Anna Woosley but couldn't close it out, falling 6-4 and 6-1. At #5, Summer Walker (Conyers, Ga.) lost the first set 6-1, battled back for a 6-3 win in the second before falling 6-2 in the third. In the #6 singles match, sophomore Shea Flanagan (Overland Park, Kans.) won the first set over Brittany Collens, 6-1, but lost the match 6-2 and 6-4.
The Huskies will head to Providence College on Saturday to play their final dual match of the fall season.
