Five Field Hockey Performers Net All-American Honors

STORRS, Conn. - Senior goalkeeper Sarah Mansfield, senior midfielder Marie Elena Bolles, senior forward Anne Jeute, sophomore midfielder Roisin Upton, and junior forward Chloe Hunnable were honored as 2013 All-Americans as announced by the NFHCA/Longstreth on Monday afternoon. All five individuals played integral roles in helping UConn capture the 2013 National Championship just over a week ago in Norfolk, Virginia. Bolles, Mansfield, Jeute, and Hunnable have now earned multiple All-American nods in their careers, while Upton joins the ranks for the first time after a stellar sophomore campaign. UConn and Maryland both received five selections apiece to lead all schools.
23 different Huskies have now earned a total of 42 First Team All-America selections while 27 Huskies have earned a total of 31 Second Team honors.
Netting her third consecutive All-American First Team selection, Sarah Mansfield (Cornwall, England) sets a program record as the only Husky to become a four-time All American, earning a spot on the Third Team in her rookie season in 2010. Mansfield also becomes just the fourth UConn player in the school's history to be placed on the First Team three times in her career. Not since Kristen Kelly in 1994 has a Husky achieved this feat. The senior goalkeeper wrapped up a sensational career this fall, posting the best record of her career with a 21-4 showing and a National Title. In Connecticut's championship run, Mansfield combined for 16 saves in four NCAA Tournament games including big stops against North Carolina in the semifinal shootout to advance to the title game. Against Duke in the National Championship, the senior held the Blue Devils scoreless for her 30th career shutout to help UConn to its third National Title and earn recognition on the NCAA All-Tournament Team for the second time in her career. Mansfield owns the goaltending record books at Connecticut, finishing with a program-best 30 shutouts and 75 wins in 91 career games in Husky uniform.
Marie Elena Bolles (Phoenixville, Pa.) collects All-American First Team recognition after posting big numbers for the Huskies in her final fall on the pitch. As a junior Bolles was an All-American Third Team choice, making her debut on the First Team this season. The Mideast Region Player of the Year and an NCAA All-Tournament honoree, Bolles provided exceptional speed and proved a dangerous offensive weapon for the Huskies. She polishes off her time at Connecticut with career-highs in both goals (17) and assists (14), finishing with a career-best 48 points in her final season. In four seasons the senior amassed 129 total points to finish in sixth place on UConn's all-time points list. Her 47 career tallies earn her eighth on the Huskies' all-time goals list, while her 35 helpers tie Jestine Angelini (2009-11) for ninth in the career assists column.
Anne Jeute (Meerbusch, Germany) matched her highest single-season point total with 34 this fall. After redshirting 2012, the senior returned in top form to lead the team in game-winning goals with seven. Jeute came up big for the Huskies, posting back-to-back goals in First and Second Round NCAA games against Boston College and Michigan State, respectively. Jeute also netted a crucial goal in the decisive shootout against North Carolina in the National Semifinal to clinch the victory for the Huskies. This marks the second All-American nod for Jeute, as she returns to the Second Team following a one year absence.
Roisin Upton (Limerick, Ireland) joins Jeute on the Second Team and receives her first All-American nod after a breakout sophomore season on the pitch this fall. In addition to providing a solid presence in the defensive effort, Upton exploded for 40 points to finish second on the team in scoring. The sophomore led the squad with 16 assists, including two assists in the NCAA Tournament to earn a place on the All-Tournament team.
A Third Team selection last season after leading both the team and conference in points, Chloe Hunnable (Halstead, England) posted a repeat All-American performance with even better numbers this fall. The junior once again led the team in scoring with 23 goals and 6 assists for an impressive 52 points for a repeat appearance on the Third Team. Hunnable ranked second on the team in game-winners with five markers, including the game-clincher against Duke in the NCAA Final. Hunnable's 52 career scores put her in a tie with Wendy Hug (1981-84) for fifth place on UConn's all-time goals list. In the career points column, the junior has acquired 125 points through three seasons to move up to seventh place in the program record books.
