STORRS, Conn. -- The UConn women's hockey team (0-3-0, 0-0-0 WHEA) returns home to Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum this weekend for a pair of contests against the Colgate Raiders (0-2-0. 0-0-0 ECAC) out of the ECAC. 'Gate visits Storrs after dropping a pair in its season-opening series against No. 1 Minnesota, while the Huskies are also in search of their first win after falling twice at No. 9/10 Minnesota Duluth last weekend. The Huskies and Raiders will face on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.
Colgate comes to Freitas Ice Forum after dropping a pair of home contests against the defending national champion and No. 1 team in the nation, the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Raiders kept the Gophers close on Oct. 4, keeping the contest tied at 1-1 through two periods before Minnesota pulled away for a 3-1 victory. On Oct. 5, Minnesota won 8-3. Liz Trautz scored for Colgate in the Friday game, and the Raiders got two goals from Melissa Kueber and one from Jocelyn Simpson on Saturday. Ashlynne Rando and Susan Allen have split time in net this year for 'Gate, with Rando making both starts and holding a 6.59 GAA and .836 save percentage. Allen played the final 36:19 of the second Minnesota game and made 17 saves on 19 shots, good for a 3.30 GAA and .895 save percentage. Colgate is coached by Greg Fargo, currently in his second season behind the bench. The Raiders went 11-21-3 in his debut last year.
After the two contests with Colgate, UConn has next weekend off before hosting RPI in another WHEA-ECAC series on Oct. 25 and 26. Both of those contests are tabbed for 2 p.m. puck drops.
