STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team trailed in the third set, 23-18, but ran off five-straight points, including four off the serve of senior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.), en route to a 28-26 win to seal a 3-0 victory over Fairfield in the UConn Classic at Gampel Pavilion, Saturday afternoon.
The Huskies took the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 27-25.
Sophomore outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) recorded her second straight double-double in a 16-kill, 10-dig effort. Quayle chipped in with seven kills and 12 digs.
Fairfield senior libero Kara Reis led all players with 22 digs, while UConn senior Kelsey Maving (Tonowanda, N.Y.) contributed a team-best 20. Junior setter Rachel Romansky totaled 35 assists for the Stags and freshman Marissa Prinzbach (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 31 for the Huskies.
Sophomore outside hitter Camille Coffey posted a double-double for Fairfield with 13 kills and 15 digs.
Connecticut hit .208 for the match, while Fairfield attached at a rate of .138.
Earlier in the day, Michigan State defeated Dartmouth in three sets by scores of 25-9, 25-17 and 25-9.
The Huskies host Michigan State in the final game of the UConn Classic tonight at 7:30 pm.
