Jake Waruch Set For 2012 Outdoor NCAA Championships

STORRS, Conn.- Jake Waruch will be the lone Husky traveling to Des Moines, Iowa this week to compete at the 2012 Outdoor NCAA Championships at Drake Stadium for the UConn men's track and field team. The Kerhonkson, N.Y. native will be competing in the decathlon with events beginning on Wednesday, June 6 and ending on Thursday, June 7.
Waruch kicked off the 2012 outdoor campaign capturing the title at the UConn Decathlon on April 11 with a new career-high 7,597 points. Waruch finished in the top three in all but two events throughout the meet.
The junior captain reached the top level of the podium at the 2012 Outdoor BIG EAST Championships where he won the decathlon with 7,230 points for his first conference crown of his career.
Waruch's performance of 7,597 points earned him a trip to Des Moines as the 17th seeded athlete for the decathlon.
