Storrs, Conn.- The University of Connecticut men's track and field team will travel to Princeton, New Jersey to compete in the Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend on Saturday, April 21st. The meet will be held at the William Weaver stadium with all events starting at 12:00p.m.
The Huskies, coming off a victory last weekend in the annual "Dog Fight", will face stiff competition this weekend. Over 35 schools will be represented and will include Big East foes such as Georgetown, Syracuse and Rutgers.
Looking forward to this weekend Coach Head Coach Greg Roy stated, "The Larry Ellis Invitational is a very competitive meet at a great facility", adding, "We need our team to go out there and do what is expected of them".
UConn will look for strong performances in each event and need leadership from the team's four captains, senior Mike Alleman (Scotch Plains, N.J.), senior Kyle Duggan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and juniors Ben and Jake Waruch (Kenhonkson, N.Y.).
The team should expect another standout performance from junior Noel James (Whitman,Mass.) who was able to come in second place last weekend with a jump of 2.08m and will look to make a statement with a first place finish in New Jersey.
Fresh off qualifying for New Englands with a time of 40.52 seconds, the 4x100 squad of Darnell Cummings (Millbrook, N.Y.), Jesse Drinks (Ossinging, N.Y.), Kevin Smith (Harwinton, Conn.) and Kevin Steinberg (Langhorne, Pa.) will look to prove themselves against a deep and talented field. Drinks and Cummings were also able to take first and second place respectively in the 100m against Albany and will look to have another successful meet at Princeton.
The Huskies have had a strong outdoor season thus far and will look to continue their momentum into the weekend. Several athletes are on the cusp of qualifying for nationals, including junior Jake Waruch ranked 9th nationally. The Huskies will need to take advantage of every qualifying opportunity, as there is only two more meets until the BIG EAST Championships.
