KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. --- University of Connecticut freshman Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) shot a solid two-over par 73 Monday to remain in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard after two rounds of the Wendy's Kiawah Classic at the Turtle Point Golf Course.
Zaback's 73 Monday followed the even-par 71 his shot on Sunday and his two-round 144 was good enough for a three-way tie for ninth place with Wisconsin's Thomas Welk and Campell's Amanjyot Singhus. Stetson's Dustin Dingus leads the 135-player field with a one-under 141.
UConn was in 15th place in the 26-team tournament after its aggregate 311 on Monday (299-311-610), just six behind 10th-place Marquette (297-309-606). South Carolina (282-293-575) leads the tournament.
Besides Zaback, UConn junior Michael Masso (Suffield, Conn.) was in a tie for 55th place with a 78-76-154, senior Brian Hughes (Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.) were both part of a tie for 71st place with a 78-76-154 and a 74-82-156, respectively. Freshman Stephen Pastore (Greenwich, Conn.) was in 132nd place after an 89-82-171. Playing as an individual, UConn freshman John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) was part of the tie for 71st place with Hughes and Wiatr after his 77-79-156).
The third and final round of the Kiawah Classic was scheduled for Tuesday. The tournament is UConn's final competition of its fall season.
