Jillian Ortega Named Head Coach At Mitchell College

STORRS, Conn. - Former University of Connecticut softball star, Jillian Ortega, was named the Head Softball Coach at Mitchell College in New London, Conn. which was announced by the university's athletic director, Maureen White, on Tuesday afternoon.
"I am very happy for Jillian. She had a great career at UConn as a player and a student assistant coach," stated Head Coach Karen Mullins.
The Aberdeen, N.J. native was a three-time All-BIG EAST infielder for the Huskies from 2006 to 2009 splitting time between shortstop and third base. In addition to her stellar fielding skills, Ortega inked her name in the record book with several top marks in batting categories for UConn. As a four year letterwinner, Ortega compiled a .323 career batting average while finishing 12th all-time with 191 hits, is 5th in the record books with 105 RBIs, 19 homeruns (5th), is third in doubles with 38, sixth with 298 total bases and scored 110 runs (9th).
Finishing her playing career in 2009, Ortega was a student assistant coach in the 2010 season with the Huskies as she finished her bachelor's in coaching and administration.
"Jillian's experience as a player, in addition to her enthusiasm and expertise, will make her a great head coach," finished Mullins.
