Rutt Named to USTFCCCA Track and Field All-Academic Team

STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut men's track and field graduate Mike Rutt (Sinking Spring, Pa.) was named to the USTFCCCA men's 2011 Division I All-Academic Track & Field team. Rutt is one of 420 athletes who represent 153 institutions and is the lone Husky on this year's squad.
Rutt, a four-time All-American who recently graduated with a degree in exercise science, has been honored for his academic and athletic achievements several times this year as he was named a BIG EAST 2010-11 Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award winner, named a BIG EAST Institutional Male Scholar-Athlete, a Babbidge Scholar and a CoSIDA Academic All-District team member.
During his UConn career, Rutt has claimed three BIG EAST titles, three New England titles, one IC4A title and was named the BIG EAST Indoor Track Performer of the Year as a junior in 2009. To go along with his seven titles, he has also earned 11 other top-five finishes throughout the tree meets in the 500m dash, 800m run and the 1,500m run. The Sinking Spring, Pa. native has qualified for the NCAA Championships five times, while also competing at the USA Track and Field Championships three times over the last five years.
The student-athletes named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team must have a 3.25 GPA along with having met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds) to qualify.
