DES MOINES, Iowa. - Following his performance in the 800m run at the NCAA Outdoor Championship, UConn senior Mike Rutt (Sinking Spring, Pa.) has been named a second team All-American by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The honor marks the fourth time that Rutt has earned All-America status during his time at UConn, becoming just the second men's track and field athlete to earn the accolade at least four times.
Rutt ran a season-best time of 1:47.75 to place 14th overall in the prelims of the 800m run at the NCAA Outdoor Championship this week, earning second team All-America honors. To go along with his seven titles, he has also earned 11 other top-five finishes throughout the three meets in the 500m dash, 800m run and the 1,500m run.
Throughout his time with the UConn track and field program, Rutt has etched his name in the record book holding the 800m indoor record (1:47.41), 800m outdoor record (1:46.63) as well as being a part of the record-setting 4x800m indoor relay team (7:20.09).
