Rutt Set For NCAA Outdoor Championship

STORRS, Conn. - After placing sixth overall in the 800m run at the NCAA East Regional meet two weeks ago, UConn senior Mike Rutt (Sinking Spring, Pa.) will now compete at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championship. The meet will be held from June 8 through June 11 on the Drake University campus in Des Moines, Iowa. The semifinals of the 800m run will begin at 7:15 p.m. EST on Wednesday, June 8, with the finals of the event taking place at 8:20 p.m. EST on Friday, June 10.
Rutt posted a 1:49.15, his second best time of the year, in the quarterfinals of the 800m run to advance to Wednesday's semifinal. Entering the championship, he ranks 24th nationally with his best time of the season (1:48.57) coming at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship.
This will be Rutt's second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championship, also qualifying last season as a junior. He currently holds the UConn record in the 800m run after posting a time of 1:46.63 last year at the NCAA East Regional.
