UConn Jumpers Dominate At Brown Springtime Open

RESULTS
STORRS, Conn. - Connecticut traveled to Providence, R.I. and dominated the jumps at the Brown Springtime Open, hosted by Brown University. UConn won the long jump, high jump and triple jump, going 1-2-3 in the long jump.
The UConn women's track and field team split the squad this week with several top sprinters and mid-distance specialists competing at the world famous Penn Relays. The remaining student-athletes traveled to Brown University to compete at the Brown Springtime Open.
UConn went 1-2-3 in the long jump, led by sophomore Whitney Holder's top mark of 6.11m. Junior Olga Ponomarenko and sophomore Brittany Power took second and third with marks of 5.63m and 5.57m, respectively.
Sophomore Ilva Bikanova continued to excel in the high jump, reaching 1.75m. Ponomarenko added to Connecticut's success with a third-place finish at 1.65m.
Power finished the sweep in the jumps, taking the triple jump with a top mark of 11.94m.
Redshirt senior Tynisha McMillian placed first in the discus. She threw 48.66m and won by over one meter. McMillian placed second in the shot put, throwing 14.36m. Brown's Brynn Smith took the top spot, reaching 15.31m.
Connecticu's success in the field events continued with a second-place performance in the javelin by junior Danika Ham. She finished with a top throw of 40.40m.
Sophomore Kewanna Donaldson took second in the 100m at 12.47 while junior Cornieta Anderson placed second in the 200m at 25.12.
Seniors Coleen Hepburn and Samantha Willis placed third and fourth in the 400m. Hepburn crossed the line at 57.42 with Willis a step behind at 57.98.
The UConn distance runners saw several top-five finishes on the day. Junior Courtney Dinnan placed second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:35.46 while sophomore Kimberly Moran and Jeanne Theleen placed second and fourth in the 5,000m. Moran ran 18:02.65 while Theleen finished in 19:00.63. Freshman Annabel Clarke finished the distance events with a second-place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase. She finished in 10:58.28.
Connecticut will head to the BIG EAST Championships at Villanova this weekend.
