Storrs, Conn. - The UConn softball team fell to Miami of Ohio today in Kennesaw, Ga., 3-2. Junior Amy DeLuca went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Sophomore Kiki Saveriano pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts. The Huskies fell to 4-4 on the season.
After having the Saturday games at the Buzz Classic rained out, UConn faced Miami at the Bailey Park on the campus of Kennesaw State tonight.
UConn jumped out to a 1-0 lead with DeLuca's first RBI double of the game. After a walk from freshman Andrea Huelsenbeck, DeLuca doubled to center field to give Connecticut a 1-0 lead.
The Redhawks went on to even the score in the top of the fourth before taking a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth.
Connecticut manufactured a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 3-2, but it wasn't enough. Brittany Duclos singled to start the inning before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Huelsenbeck. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Duclos was driven home by DeLuca's second RBI double of the day.
After DeLuca's two-hit performance today, she's now hit safely in seven straight games. During that time, she's notched 11 hits batting .478.
UConn will face Mercer tomorrow in a double-header starting at 2:00 p.m. in Macon, Ga.
