Huskies Win IC4A Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Connecticut men's track and field team won its third straight team title this weekend, as the Huskies won the IC4A Championship. UConn finished the meet with 73.5 points, outscoring second place Liberty who finished with 46 points. Today's victory marked the first Indoor IC4A Championship for the Huskies, and they have now won an IC4A Championship in cross country, outdoor track and field and indoor track and field.
The Huskies were propelled by two individual victories, three second place victories and five other top-five finishes. UConn's individual victories came from Mike Rutt in the 1,000 meter run as he finished in a time of 2:23.87 and Aaron King in the heptathlon which he finished with 5,463 points.
Noel James, Kyle Duggan and Mike Alleman recorded UConn's second place finishes, placing second in the high jump, pole vault and shot put respectively. James had a clearance of 2.13m in the high jump, Alleman had a throw of 17.68m in the shot put and Duggan had a clearance of 5.05m in the pole vault.
UConn's other top-five finishes on the day came from Dan Holst in the 800 meter run as he finished fourth with a time of 1:50.28, Joshua Faboyede in the weight throw as he finished fourth with a throw of 18.43m, Tim Bennatan in the 800 meter run (5th-1:50.32) and Jesse Chapman in the heptathlon (5th-5,119pts.). The distance medley relay team also placed fourth for the Huskies, finishing in 9:50.99.
The Huskies will now wait to see who qualified for the NCAA Championship which will be held next weekend (March 11-12).
