Huskies Compete At USF Open

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Connecticut men's track and field team brought home three top finishes today at the USF Open, as the Huskies competed in their first outdoor meet of the season. Mike Alleman, Cody Unger and Tim Bennatan each brought home a first place finish, while six other Huskies posted top-five finishes.
Alleman recorded his victory in the shot put, as he recorded a distance of 17.11m. Alleman also placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 43.81m. Cody Unger placed first in the javelin with a mark of 69.40m, while teammate Ed Strosnick placed second in the event with a mark of 61.68m. Bennatan posted UConn's final victory of the day, winning the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:59.01, while Dan Holst finished third in the 1,500m with a time of 4:03.86.
Josh Faboyede recorded a pair of top-five finishes during the meet, finishing second in the discus with a mark of 45.03 and placing third in the hammer throw with a distance of 53.75m. Noel James finished second in the high jump during the meet, ending with a clearance of 2.05m.
Chris Whyte posted UConn's final individual top-five finish, as he placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.13. UConn's 4x400 meter relay also placed fourth at the USF Open, recording a time of 3:31.23.
The Huskies will return to action on Saturday, April 2 when they compete at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.
