Huskies Complete Day One At Giegengack & New Balance Invites

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Joshua Faboyede posted a first place finish in the weight throw and Ryan McGuire recorded a personal best in the 5,000m run to lead the University of Connecticut men's track and field team this evening at the Giegengack Invitational.
"Out of the athletes that competed today at Yale, Josh (Faboyede) was the one that you really wanted to have a good meet, and he did that," head coach Greg Roy said. "I was very pleased with Josh's performance today and everyone else's as well. We still have some work to do, but we have made some big improvements so far this season."
Faboyede recorded a throw of 17.56 meters in the weight throw to post the lone UConn victory of the night. Eric Fontanez joined Faboyede as the only other Husky to post a third place finish or better in field events, finishing third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.99 meters.
McGuire topped his personal best in the 5,000m run by 23 seconds, as he finished third in a time of 14:39.77. Kevin Steinberg was the final Husky to place in the top-five as an individual, finishing fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.39. The distance medley relay team of Alex Bennatan, Chris Whyte, Dan Holst and Tim Bennatan placed fifth, ending with a time of 10:03.93 to finish the night strong for the Huskies.
"Aaron (King) and Ryan (McGuire) also had good meets today, Aaron down in New York and Ryan at Yale. I was really impressed with both of their performances today and hopefully we can continue this through tomorrow and bring home some more titles," Roy said.
Aaron King was the lone Husky to compete at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational this evening, recording an 8.24 in the 60m high hurdles.
