WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Kayla Campero totaled three goals in a pair of ties for the University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team at Vermont this past weekend. For her efforts, she was named the Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week for the week ending December 4.
Campero, a freshman forward from Wallingford, Conn., tied Friday night's game against the Catamounts at two, late in the third period to force overtime, in an eventual 2-2 tie. In action on Saturday, she scored both of UConn's goals in its second consecutive 2-2 draw. Both of Campero's goals came on the power play, one in each the first and second period.
For the season, Campero is tied for fourth on the Huskies in total points at eight on four goals and four assists. Over the last five games, she has lit the lamp four times and chipped in two assists.
Connecticut wrapped up the fall semester with two ties against UVM this past weekend to put its record at 3-12-4 overall and 2-5-2 in league play. The Huskies return to the ice for a three-game home stand after the first of the new year as they take on Harvard, Union, and Brown, all out of the ECAC.
