Huskies Skate to 2-2 Draw at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team earned a 2-2 draw at Hockey East opponent Vermont on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies record stands at 3-12-3 overall and 2-5-1 in league play heading into a 2:00 pm re-match with the Catamounts (3-10-5, 2-6-1) tomorrow afternoon.
After a scoreless first period, UVM struck first with a goal by junior Emily Walsh 11:17 into the second. Just over two minutes later, UConn responded when senior captain Sami Evelyn (Nepean, Ont.), assisted by red-shirt sophomore defenseman Maggie Walsh (Bloomfield, Conn.), tied the game at one with her fourth goal of the season. With 1:14 left in the second, Vermont sophomore Kellie Dineen, who assisted on the first UVM score, found the back of the net to put the Catamounts back on top.
Trailing 2-1, Connecticut freshman forward Kayla Campero (Wallingford, Conn.) notched her second goal of the season, coming at the 13:45 mark, to tie the game at two. Senior goaltender Alexandra Garcia (Point-Claire, Que.) turned away all 11 shots she faced in the third period to send the game to overtime.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the extra frame, while the Huskies held a 3-1 edge in shots on goal in OT. For the game, the Vermont outshot Connecticut, 35-28.
In goal, Garcia totales 33 saves, while sophomore Roxanne Douville stopped 26 shots for the Catamounts.
The tie snapped a 13-game winning streak for UConn against UVM. The Huskies have a firm hold on the all-time series as they lead 18-1-1.
