No. 5 Field Hockey Draws Princeton in NCAA First Round

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 5 University of Connecticut field hockey team has earned an at-large bid into the 2011 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship and will face Princeton on Saturday, November 12 in Storrs, Conn. at 11:30 a.m. in the First Round. The winner of the UConn vs. Princeton contest will square-off against either Penn State or Northeastern on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Storrs.
Penn State and Northeastern will play in Storrs at 2 p.m. Connecticut earned the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. UConn is ranked No. 5 in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Poll.
Princeton enters the weekend with a 10-7 overall record and played its way into the NCAA Tournament with a victory over Northeast Conference Champion Rider.
The Huskies defeated Princeton, 3-1, on October 16 of this season. UConn is 27-8-3 all-time against the Tigers and have won two in-a-row against Princeton.
The Huskies, who enter NCAA Tournament play with a 17-2 overall record, earned one of only eight at-large berths into the NCAA Tournament. The team is appearing in its 23rd NCAA Tournament and owns an all-time mark of 26-20 in NCAA postseason action. Connecticut is 15-7 all-time in NCAA Tournament first round games, including a 3-2 victory over No. 9 American in last year's First Round.
Connecticut has qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of the last 10 seasons and 15 of the last 16 overall.
The Huskies are 12-3 all-time during NCAA Tournament play in Storrs. Most recently, Connecticut defeated UMass and Boston University in Storrs en route to earning a berth in the 2007 National Semifinal.
The Huskies have advanced to the national semifinals nine times in the program's history, most recently in 2007, and won the 1981 and 1985 national championship.
