STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team bounced back from a 25-14 first set loss to take each of the next three sets in a 3-1 BIG EAST win over DePaul at Gampel Pavilion, Sunday afternoon. The Huskies lifted their record to 13-12 overall and 3-7 in league play, while the Blue Demons fell to 6-19 and 2-8.
After its first game setback, UConn grinded out wins of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-20.
Freshman outside hitter Devon Maugle (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) led the Connecticut attack for the second match in a row. He netted a match-high 16 kills to go with seven digs. Junior outside hitter Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) posted 14 kills and sophomore middle hitter Jackie Wattles (Liberty Hill, Texas) recorded a career-high 13. Quayle also chipped in with 10 digs for her team-leading eight double-double of the season and fourth in the last five games.
For DePaul, freshman outside hitter Amy Lanski tallied a team-best 14 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Anastasiya Shutava added 12. Five Blue Demons posted double digits in digs with junior libero Kelsey Bowler setting a team-high at 22.
Junior libero Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) registered a match-high 26 digs to lift her weekend total to 66 in two games. She also tied a career-high with five assists. Classmate Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) surpassed 50 digs for the second straight game and third time this season with 51.
Coming off back-to-back conference wins for the first time this season, the Huskies return to action with their final two home games of the season next weekend. Action gets underway with a 7:00 pm contest against West Virginia on Friday, November 4, followed by a 2:00 pm "Senior Day" match against Pittsburgh on Sunday, November 6.
