Paniccia Named WHEA Defensive Player of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Following her first career shutout, sophomore goaltender Nicole Paniccia (Oakville, Ont.) has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 23.
Paniccia came off the bench 16:31 into Friday night's game against Maine and trailing 3-1. She finished the game giving up just one goal and providing 21 saves. The following night, Paniccia turned away all 31 shots faced to earn the first shutout of her career in a 3-0 win over the Black Bears. Ten of her 31 saves came during each of the six Maine power plays that the Huskies killed off.
For the weekend, Paniccia totaled 52 saves and a .981 save percentage. She has started four games this season and owns a 2.35 goals against average and .923 7save percentage.
Boston College freshman forward Emily Friend was named the Athletic Republic Player of the Week, while Beth Hanrahan (Providence) and Lucia Povova (Northeastern) were named the Pro Ambitions Co-Rookies of the Week.
