Storrs, Conn. - After defeating Mercyhurst on Friday, 3-1, the Lakers returned the favor on Saturday night, dropping the Huskies, 9-4, at Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum. Five unanswered goals from Mercyhurst to start the game was the deciding factor. Three Mercyhurst players tallied a pair while Brant Harris scored twice for Connecticut.
The Huskies fell to 7-9-3 (7-5-1 AHA) while Mercyhurst improved to 8-11-2 (6-8-0 AHA). The Lakers outshot Connecticut 41-23. Garrett Bartus and Matt Grogan combined for 32 saves while Mercyhurst's Max Strang stopped 19 shots for the victory.
Merchurst opened the game with three goals in the first period and two in the first 1:14 of the second period for a 5-0 lead before Harris notched his first of the night.
The Huskies closed the gap to 6-3 in the second period with two power-play goals from Harris and a strike from senior Andrew Olson but that's as close as they would get. The Lakers turned around and outscored Connecticut, 3-1, the rest of the way to finish the scoring at 9-4.
Connecticut will be in action next with a nonconference game on Tuesday, January 11 at Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. The game begins 7:00.
