James Victorious At Saturday Night At The Armory

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Behind 11 top-five finishes and a Noel James victory in the high jump, the University of Connecticut men's track and field team brought home a third place finish at the Saturday Night at the Armory meet. The Huskies finished with 92.33 points, behind top-finisher Princeton and second place Cornell.
UConn was once again strong in the field events with six athletes placing in the top-three in their respective events, led by James who won the high jump with a mark of 2.15m. The pole vault was the strongest event for the Huskies with Kyle Duggan placing second with a clearance of 4.95m, Cory Duggan placing third with a mark of 4.80 and Zachary Meverden finishing fourth (4.80m). Tyrone Faverey was the final UConn jumper to place in the top-five, earning a third place finish with a mark of 14.35m in the triple jump.
Mike Alleman was just shy of winning the shot put, finishing second with a distance of 16.97m, while Joshua Faboyede also finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 17.66m.
Mike Rutt was the highest finisher for UConn in the track events, placing second in the mile run with a time of 4:05.21, finishing just behind Villanova's Matthew Gibney. Darnell Cummings and Kevin Steinberg where the final individuals to record top-five finishes in the running events, Cummings with a third place finish in the 200m dash (22.18) and Steinberg with a fourth place finish in the 200m dash (22.20).
The 4x800 meter relay team of Joe Clark, Paul DeSalvo, Christopher Dailey and Scott Johnson finished third with a time of 7:50.83.
The Huskies will return to action next weekend when they split time between the Collegiate Invitational and the Giegengack Invitational. Action at the Collegiate Invitational will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday (Feb. 4) and at 4:00 p.m. at the Giegengack, with action beginning at 9:00 a.m. at both meets on Saturday (Feb. 5).
