SIU Deals UConn First Loss Of The Season

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut volleyball team was dealt their first loss of the 2010 season, falling to Southern Illinois, 3-0 in the final match of the UConn Toyota Classic this evening. The Huskies are now 2-1 on the season, while the Salukis improve to 5-1.
Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) and Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) led UConn with 17 and 22 kills respectively throughout the tournament, earning All-Tournament Team honors.
Match scores against SIU were 25-20, 25-18, 25-13.
UConn had a balanced offense against the Salukis, with Murray posting seven kills, Morgan Freeman (Virginia Beach, Va.) six and Kirk five.
Running the Husky offense was Kirk and Allison Nickel (Pittsford, N.Y.), with Kirk posting 11 assists while Nickel tallied seven.
Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) had a team-high 19 digs while Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) was close behind with 14.
The Huskies return to action next weekend when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Purdue Tournament. UConn will play two matches on Friday, September 10, facing Belmont at 12:00 p.m. and Purdue at 7:30 p.m. and they will close the tournament against Duquesne at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 11.
