STORRS, Conn. - Junior back Rayell Heistand has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday. Heistand led a Husky defense that allowed only one goal in another 2-0 week as the No. 5 University of Connecticut field hockey team posted victories against Providence and No. 12 Boston College.
Heistand earns the honor for the third time in her career.
Heistand also made an impact on offense as the Hamburg, Pa. native scored the game-winner against Boston College when she converted on a penalty stroke in double-overtime. Heistand, the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, has been the mainstay of a UConn defense that has allowed only four goals (.44 goals per game) this season. The 2-0 win over PC on Friday marked UConn's fifth shutout of the season.
Heistand and the Huskies are back in action on Saturday, October 2 when the team travels to Louisville to take on the tenth-ranked Cardinals. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
