Nine Softball Player Earn BIG EAST All-Academic Honors

STORRS, Conn. - It was announced by the BIG EAST Conference that 10 University of Connecticut softball players have earned All-Academic honors. Three seniors, four juniors and three freshmen all earned grade point averages above the 3.0 requirement. Five players earned the honor for the second-straight season.
In order to qualify for All-Academic honors, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work.
Senior Julianne Towers (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) - communication sciences, and juniors Ali Adelman (San Diego, Calif.) - pre-business, Amy Vaughan (Somerset, Mass.) - American studies, and Jennifer Ward (Waterford, Conn.) - allied health sciences, all earned the award for the second-consecutive year.
Earning the award for the first time in their careers were senior Kathleen Brenneman (Cheshire, Conn.) - biological sciences, redshirt-sophomore Marissa Guches (Sammamish, Wash.) - human development and family studies, and sophomores Megan Apper (Commack, N.Y.) - pre-communication studies, Dana Hughes (Cranberry Township, Pa.) - exploratory major, and Kimberly Silva (Cheshire, Conn.) - human development and family studies.
The Huskies open the fall season with a double-header against CCSU on Saturday, September 25 at the Connecticut Softball Stadium beginning at 11:00 a.m. UConn will also face Rhode Island on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Storrs.
