Huskies Make Top Prospect Lists

STORRS, Conn. - Eight Huskies were named to top-prospect lists this summer according to Baseball America and Perfect Game.
George Springer led the way for the Huskies in summer ball as he was named the No. 1 prospect on the Cape Cod Top-150 Prospect list by Perfect Game. Matt Barnes was tagged as the No. 2 prospect. Both Springer and Barnes spent a majority of their summer playing for the USA Collegiate Team but prior to USA competition, Springer batted .294 with 15 hits, three home runs and 12 runs scored for the Wareham Gatemen. He added seven RBI, 13 walks and seven stolen bases. According to Baseball America, Springer was rated No. 2 on the Team USA Top-20 list and No. 2 in the Cape Cod League.
Barnes, the second rated Cape Cod player according to Perfect Game, also played with the Gatemen prior to playing with Team USA. During his time on the Cape, Barnes was 1-2 in three starts as he struck out 20 and allowed five earned runs in 20.2 innings of work. He posted a 2.18 ERA as well. According to Baseball America, Barnes was ranked No. 4 on the Team USA Top-20 list and third in the Cape Cod League.
According to Perfect Game Billy Ferriter was tagged as the No. 3 prospect in the Atlantic Collegiate League, while Baseball America rated him in fourth. Greg Nappo was seventh in the Valley League according to Perfect Game, while Baseball America put the senior pitcher ninth.
Perfect Game's Top-150 Cape Cod League Prospects had five Huskies on the list, including Nick Ahmed, Kevin Vance and John Andreoli. Ahmed, who was ranked No. 50, hit .212 with 31hits, 24 runs scored and 10 RBI for the Bourne Braves in 2010.
Vance, the No. 59 prospect, posted an ERA of 0.50 as he was 3-1 with the Chatham Anglers. Vance allowed one earned run and struck out 19 batters in 18 innings of work. He also registered four saves. Andreoli batted .400 in four playoff games and .271 overall for Brewster and Wareham as he spent time with both clubs this summer. He was tagged as the No. 135 prospect in the Cape.
Mike Zaccardo was also picked as the 17th top-prospect in the Atlantic Collegiate League according to Perfect Game.
