STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut men's track athlete Brian Gagnon has been named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Northeast Track Athlete of the Year as announced Friday. The honor is the first of Gagnon's career.
The redshirt senior had an outstanding final season as a Husky. His season broke open at the BIG EAST Championship where he earned his second career 800 meter title. He also ran the anchor leg of the Huskies winning 4x800 meter relay team.
He continued to get better at the IC4A Championship, taking home yet another title and again anchoring the winning 4x800 meter relay team leg. His effort at the meet was all but the deciding factor in the Huskies first ever IC4A Outdoor Championship title.
At the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C., Gagnon finished sixth in the quarterfinal round heat with a career best time of 1:46.99 advancing him to his first ever NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Gagnon will continue on his senior journey on Wednesday, June 9 at 4:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. ET in the semifinal round of the 800-meter run at the NCAA Championship.
