Another week has past in our 2010 softball season. Going 3-2 on the week and scoring 27 runs in those five games was good, however we are striving to do better. As the weather improves with each passing day, our team is maturing and building upon skills learned throughout the year. Our 11-18 record doesn't reflect the efforts and desire our team has shown. Unfortunately, determination and will cannot be measured and for every time a team wins, another team loses. So why are sports worth the effort when you don't have a winning record? I can easily come up with 17 reasons: Tricia Sullivan, Justyne Roy, Amanda Martin, Jessica Arremony, Julie Towers, Kathleen Brenneman, Jen Ward, Amy DeLuca, Amy Vaughan, Ali Adelman, Marissa Guches, Dana Hughes, Kiki Saveriano, Brittany Duclos, Kim Silva, Megan Apper, and Jessica McDermott.
Every game they come to the field ready to compete. Batting averages, errors, earned runs don't matter, but what does matter is a statistic that cannot be truly measured...heart. And these kids have got that! Seeing them offer each other support and encouragement, enjoying their celebration at home plate after a homerun, watching them point in the dugout after making an out, that's why it's worth it. Seeing the disappointment on their faces after losing hurts but seeing their smiles and hearing their cheers after winning, that's why it's worth it.
Being a rebuilding season, it is vital we lay a solid foundation in which to build upon. We are building a foundation that will be at the core of each day throughout not only this season, but throughout their playing careers. This foundation is made from 17 hearts and its beat is strong!!!
