SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Connecticut women's track and field team held its first outdoor meet of the 2010 season on Saturday at the George J. Shermann Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn. UConn won the event with 115 points, while Brown took second with 48 as Massachusetts finished in third place with 25 points, respectively.
With a mark of 48.23 meters (158'3") freshman Emma Crowcroft broke the freshman school record in the javelin and moves to second all-time to Amanda Martin (157'1"). Crowcroft had a near seven-meter personal record from her high school best and becomes one of the top USA Junior National competitors along with teammate Jasmine Cribb, who also broke through with some major marks.
Cribb's jump of 5'10 ½" in the high jump marks the fifth-best performance in UConn history.
Mandela Graves-Fulgham picked up a season best mark of 54.31 in the 400 meter dash and led the Huskies to a 4x100 meter relay season best with a finishing time of 45.62. Chanell Smith (56.45) and Coleen Hepburn (57.55) took second and fourth, respectively.
Leah Andrianos won the 800 meter as the Huskies took the first two spots and the fourth place finish with Heather Wilson taking second.
Megan Cunningham won the 1,500 with a time of 4:32.29, ranking her fourth among UConn's all-time runners in that event. Shauna McNiff also picked up a first place finish in the 5,000 meter with a winning time of 17:44.34. Megan Jacoby won steeplechase to rank her fourth all-time in UConn history in her respective event. Her time was 11:09.29.
UConn also placed 1-4 in the 200 meter dash with Danielle Lyte leading the way with a first place finish of 24.95. Smith, Hepburn and Kewanna Donaldson finished right behind.
"This was a great home meet for us - obviously Emma Crowcroft and Jasmine Cribb excelled - adding to the list of NCAA qualifiers," said head coach Bill Morgan. "Mandela (Graves-Fulgham) ran unopposed in 400 showing what is in store when she gets challenged and the middle distance continues to develop and show confidence with solid performances."
