Huskies Drop Sunday Matinee 5-1 To Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The University of Connecticut softball team dropped their weekend finale to Syracuse Sunday by a 5-1 decision. Kim Silva (Cheshire, Conn.) scored the Huskies lone run of the day and was driven in by Julianne Towers (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) who recorded her team leading 26th RBI of the season.
The Huskies drop to 19-24 on the year and 5-9 in the BIG EAST while Syracuse improves to 25-20 in 2010 and 9-7 in BIG EAST play.
Kiki Saveriano (Lexington, Mass.) evened her season record out to 11-11 with the loss allowing seven hits for four earned runs and striking out five.
Syracuse got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning scoring two runs for the early lead. They added another couple of runs in the fourth inning increasing their lead to 4-0.
The Huskies got on the board in the top of the fifth. Silva reached base via a walk advancing to second on a groundout to the pitcher by Jen Ward (Waterford, Conn.). She was driven in one batter later by Towers on a single up the middle.
The Huskies couldn't get any closer as Syracuse got that run back in the sixth inning to finish with the 5-1 victory.
UConn will be back in action on Wednesday, April 28 in a midweek double header against Seton Hall that will kick off at 2 p.m. The game will be shown on Cox Television in a tape delay.
