STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's track and field team had a busy weekend as a group of Huskies competed at the Sea Relay Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn. with another group competing at the Brown Invitational in Rhode Island.
Emma Crowcroft led the Huskies at the Sea Ray Relays as she won the javelin with a toss of 46.19 meters (151' 6"). The Huskies' 4x100 meter relay team of Trisha-Ann Hawthorne, Phylicia George, Kristen Brown and Mandela Graves-Fulgham took first place with a time of 45:03, tying the third fastest time in school history.
The 4x100 relay team beat out top teams such as Tennessee and Charlotte. Tennessee entered the weekend ranked 10th in the nation in the event, while Charlotte was ranked 28th. The Huskies are currently ranked first in the BIG EAST Conference in the event.
The distance medley relay team of Leah Andrianos, Brigitte Mania, Heather Wilson and Christine Vogel garnered a commendable second place (11:39.27) as did Carin Knight in the high jump (1.75 meters - 5' 8 ¾"). Victoria Flowers placed third in the hammer with a throw of 56.12 meters (184' 1").
"I thought the relay team was solid with their performance and they are beginning to put themselves in position to contend for the BIG EAST title," said head coach Bill Morgan. "Emma (Crowcroft) continued to show her potential by working through some early technical difficulties for a second straight meet over 150' as she was ranked third going in and bested a quality field of throwers."
At Brown, UConn was led by Danielle Lyte who took first place in both the 100 meter as well as the 200 meter. In the 100m, Lyte finished with a mark of 12.35, while she ran 25.32 in the 200m. Kewanna Donaldson took second in the 100m with a time of 12.63.
In the 400 meter, Coleen Hepburn took third place with a time of 58.58. In the 100 meter hurdles, Sashauna Stewart finished in 15.11.
Jeanne Theleen took second place in the 3,000 meter with a time of 10:34.05.
