Huskies Dominate At Jerry Gravel Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. - In their first meet of the 2010 Outdoor Season, the University of Connecticut men's track team dominated at the Jerry Gravel Classic at Westfield State College finishing with a total of 197 points.
UConn ended the day winning nine of the 14 events that they competed in by a huge margin.
Mike Alleman finished in first place in both the shot put and discus events downing his competition. He finished with a throw of 16.75 meters in the shot put and 46.96 meters in the Discus throw.
Patrick Sampson took first place in the hammer throw by over five meters. The junior finished with a toss of 57.39 meters out tossing his teammate Josh Faboyede, who finished with a throw of 51.95 meters.
Also on the field side of things, Dylan Dombrowski took first in the javelin with a toss of 59.17 meters. The Huskies went 1-2-3 in the event as Eric Alfiere took second with a throw of 57.09 meters and Justin Siekierski took third throwing the javelin 56.50 meters.
The Huskies excelled in the pole vault finishing one-two as Kyle Duggan ended with a height of 5.06 meters while Matt Alexander took second with a height of 4.64 meters.
On the track side of things, Chris Whyte earned first place honors in both of the hurdling events finishing the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.11 seconds and the 400 meter hurdles in 55.86 meters.
Will Sanders earned his first place finish ending with a time of 9:06.01, over 1 minute and 13 seconds faster than his closest competitor.
Tyler Hopson took first place honors in the 400 meter dash clocking in at 49.99 seconds while Jesse Drinks earned 200 meter title honors finishing in 22.19 seconds.
