Huskies Take Home Three Titles From Giegengack Invite

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - After competing in two different meets this weekend, the University of Connecticut men's track and field team brought home three titles and 11 IC4A qualifying times from the Giegengack and New Balance Collegiate Invitationals.
UConn's throwing squad produced some of their biggest throws of the season at the New Balance Collegiate Invite on Friday night and Saturday morning. Michael Alleman (Scotch Plains, N.J.) recorded a season best toss of 17.30 meters in the shot put while Josh Faboyede (Providence, R.I.) and Pat Sampson (Middletown, R.I.) also threw season best tosses in the weight throw with throws of 18.15m and 18.01m respectively. Each throw qualified the athlete for the IC4A Championships.
At the Giegengack Invitational, the Huskies earned three titles on the day, two individual and one of the relay kind.
The 1000m run was the most successful for the Huskies as each of the runners competing in the race finished in the top-five with an IC4A qualifying run. Dan Holst (Smithtown, N.Y.) crossed the line first for the Huskies with a time of 2:27.63 while Scott Johnson (Old Lyme, Conn.) took second place in 2:27.92 and Alex Bennatan ( Lake Forest, Ill.) finished fifth with a time of 2:29.49.
Also finishing first for the Huskies was Kevin Steinberg (Langhorne, Pa.) in the 60m run. Steinberg crossed the line with a time of 6.97 seconds, while Anthony Burris (Bridgeport, Conn.) finished behind him in third place with a time of 7.01 seconds.
The other title that the Huskies took on the day was in the Distance Medley. UConn finished first with an IC4A qualifying time of 9:56.90.
UConn will be back in action next weekend when they take part in their final meet before the BIG EAST Championship at the Lafayette-Rider Invitational at the Armory in New York City on Friday, February 12.
