STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut junior running back Jordan Todman (North Dartmouth, Mass.) was named a Walter Camp Second Team All-American on Thursday (Dec. 9), as announced by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Todman is the first Connecticut player to earn the award since Donald Brown was named to the second team following the 2008 season. Throughout the history of Connecticut football, 33 players have been tabbed as All-Americans by a number of organizations and publications.
Todman finished the regular season ranked second nationally in rushing, averaging 143.1 yards per game. He ran for 1,574 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading the BIG EAST in both categories, and went for at least 100 yards nine times over the season. He had at least one rushing touchdown in eight games and had two games with three rushing touchdowns. Todman ran for a season-high 222 yards on 37 carries in a 30-28 victory over Pittsburgh, went for 190 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-21 win against Vanderbilt and had 175 yards and three TDs in a 38-17 win over Cincinnati.
Following the 2010 regular season, Todman ranks second in the UConn record books with 584 career carries, third with 3,058 career net yards and tied for third with 31 career rushing touchdowns. In the victory against Pittsburgh earlier this year he went over the 1,000 yard mark for the season and became the first ever Husky to rush for 1,000 or more yards in two seasons.
Todman, who was recently named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year on Wednesday (Dec. 8), led the Huskies to an 8-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the BIG EAST, claiming a share of the BIG EAST Championship. Following five straight wins to end the regular season UConn earned the conference's BCS bid and will now face Oklahoma in the 2011 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will mark the first time in school history that the Huskies will play in a BCS contest.
