Huskies Fall In Five Sets To Georgetown

STORRS, Conn. - Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas), Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) and Morgan Freeman (Virginia Beach, Va.) combined for 37 of UConn's 47 kills tonight, as the Huskies fell to Georgetown, 3-2 this evening in Gampel Pavilion.
Set scores were 22-25, 26-28, 25-21, 25-17, 9-15.
After forcing Georgetown to the limit during both the first and second sets, the Huskies were finally able to take set three and continue their dominance through set four to tie the match at 2-2.
The Hoyas and the Huskies battled back and forth until the 22-20 mark during the third frame, including a four-point UConn run set off by kills from Murray and Allison Nickel (Pittsford, N.Y.) and a pair of Georgetown errors. The run gave Connecticut the momentum for the remainder of the set, as the Huskies capitalized on three Georgetown errors to take their fourth set point of the night, and won the frame on a Murray kill, her ninth of the match.
UConn dominated set four, trailing only once at the 5-6 mark. The Huskies were led by Murray, who posted seven kills, including the set winner. Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) and Kirk each tallied two kills during set four, while Freeman added one, and Roidt, Kirk and Murray combined for three service aces as the Huskies came away with the 25-17 win.
Georgetown jumped out to an early 3-0 lead during the final frame and never looked back as they won the match with 15-9 set five victory.
Murray and Kirk each posted double-double's on the night, Murray adding 12 digs to her 17 kills and Kirk posting 10 kills and 11 digs.
Four Huskies had double figure digs on the night, Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) posted 15, Murray had 12, Kirk had 11 and Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied 10.
Kirk had a match-high four aces, while Murray posted three, bringing her season total to 45, which is a team-best.
Nickel led the way with seven blocks on the night (1S, 6BA), while Freeman and Roidt added five and Kirk posted three.
The Huskies will return to action on Sunday (Nov. 7) when they host USF at 2:00 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The match will serve as senior day for the duo of Murray and Lauren Lamberti (Cary, Ill.).
