STORRS, Conn. - Alexandra Garcia (Pointe-Claire, Que.) was named the WHEA Goaltender of the Month as announced by the conference this afternoon (Tuesday, Nov. 30) for her performance during November. Garcia helped the Huskies to a 5-1-0 record during the month and is the first UConn player to receive a monthly award from the conference this season.
During November, Garcia tallied 139 saves for a .959 save percentage and allowed just six goals for a 1.22 goals against average. Two of Garcia's wins during the month came as shutouts, as she held New Hampshire scoreless for the first time since the 2004-05 season and extended UConn's win streak over Vermont to 10.
Garcia held opponents to one goal or less in all but one contest during the month, leading the Huskies to four straight Hockey East victories and a second place ranking in the conference standings. The Pointe-Claire, Que. native recorded at least 25 saves in every game, posting a .950 save percentage or better in each contest.
On the season Garcia has posted 413 saves, becoming the fourth Husky to reach the 1,000 save milestone as she has 1,278 on her career. She holds a .926 save percentage this season along with a career goals against average of 1.92 which is tops on the UConn all-time chart.
In conference games only Garcia leads the Hockey East with a .962 save percentage, ranks second with a 1.15 GAA and is third with a .643 winning percentage.
Garcia and the Huskies will return to Hockey East play this Saturday (Dec. 4) when they host Boston University at 1:00 p.m. in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.
