UConn Falls To Maryland In NCAA Quarterfinals

College Park, Md. - Jestine Angelini (Boiling Springs, Pa.) scored UConn's lone goal of the game as the Huskies fell to the top ranked Maryland Terrapins, 3-1 in the NCAA quarterfinals this afternoon in College Park, Md. The Huskies end the 2010 season with a record of 16-6.
Angelini put the Huskies on the board at the 13:26 mark of the first half when she drilled a shot over the diving Maryland goalie, giving UConn the 1-0 lead. Angelini got the ball 20 yards out with a straight shot at the goal after Kim Kryzk (Seaville, N.J.) and Alicia Angelini (Boiling Springs, Pa.) found her on the first penalty corner of the game.
Maryland's Megan Frazer tied the game in the 21st minute when she put one past Sarah Mansfield (Cornwall, England) from 20 yards out. The score would hold throughout the remainder of the first half, sending both teams into halftime with the score knotted at 1-1.
UConn and Maryland had fairly even play during the first half, the Terrapins holding the narrow 6-5 shot advantage after 35 minutes, while Mansfield had three saves in goal for the Huskies.
Jemma Buckley gave Maryland the 2-1 lead at the 45:13 mark when she scored on a penalty corner that mirrored the Terps goal from the first half.
Maryland extended their lead to 3-1 with 12 minutes left in the game when Jill Witmer put one into the corner of the goal on a break away play. The 3-1 Terps lead would hold for the remainder of the game as Maryland ended with a 15-12 advantage in shots, while Mansfield had eight saves for the Huskies in goal during the contest.
