Huskies Fall In Four At Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind.) and Jordan Kirk (Plano, Texas) each posted double-digit kills to lead the University of Connecticut offense, but it was not enough as the Huskies fell at Pittsburgh, 3-1 this afternoon.
Set scores were 15-25, 21-25, 25-17, 21-25.
After dropping the first two sets, the Huskies rallied to take set three behind a team-high four kills from Kirk. UConn and Pittsburgh battled to a 9-9 tie in the beginning of the set before the Huskies went on a four-point run to take a 13-9 lead.
During the run the Huskies posted points on three Panther errors and a Kirk kill. UConn was able to hold the lead during the remainder of the set, and came away with the victory after putting up four straight points including back-to-back kills from Kirk to close the frame.
The Panthers bounced back with a 25-21 victory during set four and came away with the 3-1 match victory.
Murray, who posted a team-best 13 kills also posted 15 digs and one block against the Panthers, while Kirk had 12 kills, eight digs, two blocks and a service ace.
Kelsey Maving (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Mattison Quayle (Los Angeles, Calif.) also posted double-digit digs during the match, Maving with a match-high 16 and Quayle with 10.
Angela Roidt (McFarland, Wis.) tallied 36 of UConn's 40 assists, marking her 12th 30+ assist match of the season.
The Huskies travel to Morgantown, W. Va. to face West Virginia tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in their final regular season match of 2010.
