STORRS, Conn. - The No. 4 Connecticut field hockey team swept the weekly BIG EAST honors as junior midfielder Jestine Angelini was named Defensive Player of the Week and freshman forward Anne Jeute was honored as Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
The Huskies posted a 6-0 victory against Rutgers, in their only action last week, to lock up the No. 3 seed in this weekend's BIG EAST Tournament at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn. The Huskies will square-off against No. 10 Louisville on Saturday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m.
Monday marks the fifth time a Husky has won Defensive Player of the Week Honors, as Rayell Heistand and Sarah Mansfield each earned the honor on two occasions. Jeute is the first Husky to win Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Angelini anchored a Husky defense that finished the 2010 regular season with a 6-0 shutout victory over the Scarlet Knights. The win over Rutgers marked UConn's eighth shutout of the season. She also scored two goals, including the game-winner, on corners and added an assist. Angelini finished fourth on the team with 17 points and led the squad with 11 assists.
Jeute scored a career-high three goals against RU. The hat trick was the first of Jeute's young career and marked the first time a UConn player posted a hat trick since Lauren Henderson accomplished the feat in 2004. Jeute finished the regular season as the Huskies' leader in both goals (13) and points (31).
