CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (October 31, 2010) - The University of Connecticut women's ice hockey team struggled to get their offense going throughout all three periods this afternoon, as the Huskies fell to No. 8 Boston College, 3-0 in their third Hockey East contest of the season.
After tying the Eagles, 2-2 yesterday, the Huskies couldn't get their offense rolling at Kelley Rink, as they had 23 shots on goal with Boston College's Molly Schaus saving all of them.
Boston College's first goal came just three minutes into the first period, with Kelli Stack recording an unassisted goal, her ninth of the season.
The UConn defense held off the Eagles until the 19:41 mark of the second period, with Blake Bolden giving BC the 2-0 advantage after she was able to slip the puck past Alexandra Garcia (Pointe-Claire, Que.), who posted 36 saves on the day for the Huskies.
Rebecca Hewett (Oak Bluff, Man.) got the UConn offense off to a strong start during the final period recording five of the Huskies 14 shots on goal, while Taylor Gross (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Kelly Horan (Methuen, Mass.) each tallied three shots on goal during the period.
Garcia was pulled at the 17:39 mark for the extra attacker, but the UConn offense got off just three shots with the advantage and was not able to capitalize on any of them. BC's Danielle Welch took advantage of the empty net, scoring her second goal of the season with just 21 seconds left on the clock to put the game away for the Eagles.
UConn will return to action next weekend when they host Maine in the lone contest of the week on Saturday (Nov. 6) at 1:00 p.m. in the Mark Edward Freitas Ice Forum.
